Funny and untold
So, today, arriving at our campground we met our neighbors, an older couple from North Carolina. She is 69 and he is 76 and new at camping, just like us. She confessed to having been wearing a hat for the last two weeks because she hasn't been able to wash her hair well since they left home. She also said they had to stay at a hotel one night because they needed a real bed and also admitted backing up into a couple of things.
Although we did not have any of those things happen to us, our trip has not been flawless. For example, even after all these days of camping, this woman today recognized us as newbies. I guess it must have been our attempt to achieve perfection while parking what gave us away!
There was also the matter of the short fresh water hose not reaching and having to reinstall the filter to the longer hose, which we fortunately also have. And to think that they have not seen us departing yet! This is really when we really show our colors, as we read from the Casita manual the travel check list, or when we finally check the lights and I feel like an airport ground controller when I lift my thumbs to confirm the functioning of the lights. Other than saying "all systems are a go," we could very well fit into any take-off scenario.
Among our mishaps was the spilling of soup while trying to open the can. I guess we are so used to the electric openers at home, we can no longer handle the hand held ones. And so it was that our Casita was Christened with chicken soup rather than water.
Also, seeing flames inside the microwave was not a very comforting moment. This happen in an attempt to warm-up a biscuit in the wrapper without removing the wire closure. My first reaction was to open the trailer door and flee. Ventilation was my second thought. I think the fear of hearing the smoke detector go off and have half the camp here was worst than actually putting off any possible fire. I am happy to inform that the alarm did not go off, and there was no major fire, just the small incineration of the paper around the wire, and of course the corresponding smoke.
I did mention the opening of the refrigerator door with the movement of the trailer as we were going up north and how my fruit salad ended on the floor and how the grapes rolled everywhere. There was also the matter of pine sap falling on my IPad while I enjoyed the outdoors and that once, just once, we forgot to lift the foot on the hitch and we almost plowed a few inches of the camp site, but we corrected and all was fine.
There was also the matter of grease from the hitch ball on our pants, but that was taken care of with a good wash. Also, I reported mosquitos in Maine earlier, unsaid was that the mosquitos here are so huge that I believe they are capable of possible blood transfusions! If ever in Maine, I will bathe in Off before getting out of the car! I believe that sort of wraps up our few mishaps, but then, we still have some miles to go before we reach home.
